Thank you to everyone that contributed to our first survey, we had over 64 responses, and have chosen the slogan: "Invest in young people who invest in each other" for our Year End Campaign.

Here are some of the thoughts and ideas that the first survey generated:

In response to a request for feedback on our tag-line:

"The theme is comodotizing the youth in a type of business relationship, but it gets the point across that youth in society is important."

"I think 'invest' sends a great message - that supporting young people now has consequences for our future."

"There are many issues going on in society now and people recognize them as being based within young people and by asking people to invest in young people, its asking them to invest in change."

"Would like something that's focused on math.... why invest in young people?"

"In order us as a people to be a part of this society in a meaningful way we need to radically change this society and this means we need to think radically"
"I like this tag line because it allows me to find a deeper, more powerful meaning concerning the work I do today as a College Math Literacy Worker and a Assistant Trainer and the purpose of the Young People's Project and the impact it has on the society and the young people's project."

"So often people accept that they are a part of a system that is against them and so often these same people accept that there is nothing that can be done to change that and that they must settle for the role that has been 'assigned' to them."

"The tag line incorporates our 'radical' roots and also our goal in investing in a young persons life"

"Like it because It's a powerful concept that is simply put. However, may scare some funders off."

"'Being young is a state of mind.' For me, that says it all."

In response to our request that you share a story describing YPP's impact on the community:

"I saw a girl who was completely unmotivated in the math classroom write "I love math" on a wipe board during a YPP session. Within the first two days of school starting this fall, half of our MLWs from last year were asking when YPP would be starting up again. YPP is motivating them and making a difference!!"

"YPP has created a space for a lot of people in my community to put in work doing something meaningful."

"YPP is making strides in addressing the systemic inequity in math literacy in the Ann Arbor (Michigan) Public Schools."

"Many people in YPP cannot fathom what their current life path would be like without YPP. It has been a positive force in communities of children who were surrounded by negativity and could have chosen anther route in life that would include drugs and violence. By giving young people alternate endings to their stories we are also investing in the future."

"Before YPP I really didn't think about my community and how it affected me. All I wanted to do was make enough money so that I can live in a better environment. Now since I've been in YPP, I realize that my community is me and that I need to better my community any way possible for the next generation."

"When you give kids the tools they need to empower themselves, the feats they achieve will astonish you. It's all about being given the opportunity, and a little guidance, that makes an individual take it upon themselves to make a change about something they are truly passionate about."

"I watched YPP youth exercising leadership as they went to their states capitol and talked to legislators about the need for funding for vital after school programs like YPP and the impact these programs have on the communities the legislators represent. It was very powerful to see the legislator’s reaction to the young people."

"I started out as MLW when I began working with YPP. I originally joined YPP to earn money and be able to find an After school activity I can get involved with. I always was the kind of person who like to participate in activities or organizations that I was able to reach out or give something back to the community. Every Job that I had so far was an job with Organizations. My first job was ICAH (Illinois Caucus Of Adolescent Health) where I facilitated health classes by young people reaching out to other Young People about there Rights in there Sexual Health. I worked with the Red Cross where I was a Red Cross Leader and I did about the same but, I facilitated workshops that was more then Sexual Health. Health and Safety, First Aid, Disaster Relief, etc. YPP was definitely one of my many jobs working with an Organization that Like the others I was then and now very proud to be apart of. Each job I definitely learned morals that I carry throughout my everyday activities that I feel provides value to my decisions, my character, and most important the way I feel about myself. YPP by itself has taught me to think outside the box, to find answers or different ways that you didn't even realize to be possible. Most importantly it has taught me growth. As a young person I may have had a unpleasant attitude or out take on certain things but, I was able to learn that attitude is everything and YPP gave me the opportunity to take on a leadership role that provided me with the challenges and skills to develop myself into a young adult. YPP ironically raised me and that I think beside the math content or the skills that YPP teaches you, In my opinion Growth and leadership is the most valuable thing that you can take from and YPP can give you."

In response to our request to give 1-2 reasons why you think someone should give money and support YPP:

"It is a real movement for educational and social change."

"My school worked for me. I'm self-actualized, happy, articulate, intelligent, and confident about my place in the world. I am lucky. School doesn't instill these characteristics in millions of people because human interaction is the only thing that can. YPP embraces our humanity, our uniqueness so eye to eye, flag to flag, we'll be more complete people."

"The young peoples project has been able to bridge the gap between math literacy and social justice. We bridge gaps between race, class, gender to bring people of all backgrounds together to help one another."

"YPP is an organization that has a lasting effect on those involved with it. Positive work is worth investing into at all times."

"YPP provides a tremendous outreach to students with the greatest need. The contagiousness of students relating to students provides a unique to sustain commitment to learning and the purposes for mathematics as "Nation Building Knowledge."

"I think YPP offers alot more than just social change, it give young people more option in life. Before YPP I had little knowledge about desktop publishing, I was a 7th grader doing graphic design and that's just 1 example."

"No other organization like it, most math literacy work is done around tutoring, YPP organizes young people to find a reason to teach math, empowers them to create materials and implement them, begins the training of a teacher at an early age - some of the best development."

"1. YPP fully commits to the whole development of young people.
2. YPP has its finger on the pulse of emerging opportunities to build movements for justice."

"YPP is a stepping stone experience towards a self-directed life."

"To make a difference, help a child expand their educational horizons"

"YPP is trying to reach out to more site's in the community and expand our capacity. In order to do that, we need support from everyone and everywhere."

"I need a raise."

Wow! Thank you all so much for the spirited feedback on our last survey. Your thoughts, suggestions, ideas and criticism are of great value to us.
