The Young People’s Project began working in Petersburg through the collaborative efforts of key members of the Virginia State University faculty, the Petersburg city school district and the Petersburg City Council. Full implementation of YPP began in August 2007. Since that time, The Young People’s Project has worked in close partnership with the Algebra Project in Petersburg, which is among the neediest school districts in the country. The Young People’s Project is rapidly becoming engrained the in the community as they move along the path to further their efforts around math literacy.
