Leadership Development Institute: Cohort #2

The leadership development Institute is an ongoing training facilitated by Jim Burruss from the Hay Group. Burruss has over thirty-five years of experience conducting leadership development personnel training in the corporate sector. His strategy for the trainings are to view competencies and conditions that contribute to excellence in the workplace and then gauge how to develop people so they become excellent leaders. There have been three seminars so far this year in February, May and September. The goal is to help core staff such as site directors, site coordinators, lead trainers, and instructors develop the understanding and knowledge to become aware of the conditions that contribute to effective leadership and create productive work environments. The seminars have been very informative and useful in helping people learn about themselves, and determine their strengths and weaknesses. The seminars have also been helpful in teaching participants about the core values, motives, and attributes to use when leading others and how these aspects of leadership can be improved to help them become more effective in their work.

According to Maisha Moses, "the next step for YPP as an organization is for us to capitalize on what we have learned more effectively for the benefit of the organization." In regards to the LDI participants overall: "Everybody involved really loves it! We were able to put concepts into practice and at every session we were given a homework assignment," continues Maisha. "We all individually have goals that we are working towards and we report back on our progress in subsequent sessions."
